Telecommunication towers are, typically, tall structures designed to support antennas
for telecommunications and broadcasting, including television.
Telecommunication towers, transmission towers, broadcasting towers and
tall structures such as, for example, Riyadh TV Tower in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (170m)
are hazardous to aviation safety because of their height and location
and should be marked with obstruction lights according to
international regulations.
There is no single standard defining minimum
mandatory requirements governing design and
installation of obstruction lighting; on the other
hand the most common and widespread
regulations are ICAO's and FAA's.
